Youth Community Builders Summer Program
July 7 through August 15 from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
The Responsibility of Being An American
This is the theme of our six-week event at Hanover Presbyterian Church. The youth will explore the responsibilities of good citizenship through teamwork, service projects, workshops, and field trips, along with recreation, games, lots of fun and good food.
The teams of the Youth Community Builders are exploring Health Issues during their fourth week of camp. Globally we are looking at the problems of Pollution, Disease, Food Distribution, and Diet. We are looking at nutritional foods, and the foods that differing cultures enjoy. Checking on the United States Health Issues, we are studying wellness issues, considering the checks and balances with the care of people and animals. Why does the USA have a higher rate of diabetes, heart and coronary disease, and cancer? By looking at the effects of these diseases on our bodies, we also are learning about what to do to avoid these debilitating diseases. Of course a fun way of learning will be to check out the movie documentary "Super-size me."
Howard High School has a Fresh Farmer's Market and demonstrations about food and food preparations. We plan to attend this event on Thursday, as we explore good food and health issues.
